Rehabilitation vs. Replacement
Wachs Utility Services specializes in the rehabilitation
of water system assets, which extends the working life of the
asset and saves the utility the cost to replace. An average
size water utility with a distribution system of only 300 miles
of main will have assets (valves, hydrants, meters, pipe, etc.)
valued at hundreds of millions dollars. In larger water utilities
the value of these assets reaches easily up into the billions.
Wachs uses proven processes and state-of-the-art equipment
to improve water systems and rehabilitate assets and bring
them back to operability. By rehabilitating water system assets,
we extend the working life of the asset and save the cost to
replace. This provides a tremendous savings to water utilities.
In a recent valve exercising program, where
parts were unavailable, Wachs engineers machined new gears
for a large external geared valve from the 1800’s and
brought it back to operability. Rehabilitating this critical
valve saved the water utility significant dollars because
replacement required the draining of an entire reservoir.
Wachs distribution system experts deliver these types of
benefits in our programs on a daily basis.
